No, it’s not a new waterfront condo development, but a development of…?

(Photo Above) The Tottenville rock formations at its starting point. As you arrive, these formations can give you a bit of eerie sense of whats beyond.
In Any Town USA, once in a while you come across some strange places, you know those town legends that would send us an unusual place seeking to validate the mystery behind “that place where…?” While there have been several stories about the Tottenville rock formations, I needed to see just what this piece of artwork was all about. According to Gelf Magazine who did a story on this sculpture, the artists Name is Douglas Schwartz, a South Shore Staten Island Resident who has spent over a decade creating these beach sculptures.

(Above) Photo of the entry point leading visitors through hundreds of sculptures.

(Above Photo) As you move deeper into the landscape of sculptures they grow in size and density, almost like the landscape of a modern city. As you can see, in the middle of the photo on the horizon, a series of larger sculptures exist. (Photo Below) I must have been standing in the suburbs of this rock mecca. The artist made a series of what looked like sitting benches throughout the display, one of which is slightly identifiable in the photo below.

(Photo Below left) The rock formations were made up many unusually textured rocks, giving it a extra terrestrial appearance. The photo on the right was some Martian effects I put in myself, for dramas sake.

These strange places do wonders for the imagination, whether man made, by nature, or by some other force. Its art, someone or something creates something that makes us think, “what am I looking at, and why?” After visiting this little corner of Staten Island, I thought to myself that same question. However, I think that was the point of its creation, which was just let imagination of the spectator run a bit freer. Quite frankly, that was what I enjoyed most about coming to see this display.
